France and African countries fighting terrorism in Mali.
A multi-national military initiative took out some two dozen terrorists in Mali’s Kidal region. The latest action came as part of Operation Barkhane.
Military forces from France, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad have been working together since July to rout more than 5 million square kilometres of terrorists. Thousands of men are involved.
The Mali action, which was carried out in the Ametetai Valley and the Tigharghar Mountains, “weakened the terrorist networks operating in northern Mali and their hold over the population in this region”, France said.
“The outcome of this operation shows that the jihadists are still firmly anchored in this region,” said Sidati Ould Cheikh, a terrorism analyst. “Although the presence of the MINUSMA [UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission] forces and Operation Barkhane are greatly reducing the jihadists’ room for manoeuvre, the latter are still putting up resistance.” READ ARTICLE HERE
