The announced death of one of the world’s most wanted terrorists would be a major blow to al-Qaeda in the region and to Islamist terrorists already forced to flee towns they had seized in northern Mali by an offensive by French and African troops.

In fact, on Saturday March 2nd, the Chad Armed Forces announced in a statement that while operating in Northern Mali they killed many terrorists including their leader Mokhtar Belmokhtar. That happened in Mali’s Adrar des Ifoghas mountains near the Algerian border.

Neither France nor U.S.A.  confirmed the killing of Belmokhtar.
