Kenyan authorities insist security has been restored in Mombasa after days of deadly protests broke out following the killing of the extremist Muslim cleric Aboud Rogo Mohammed on Monday , allegedly linked to Somalia´s al-Qaeda-allied Shebaab militants.

Foreign embassies – including those of Britain, France, Australia,  and the United States – have issued travel warnings for Kenya, specially Mombasa, where several large tourist resorts are based.

Cleric Rogo was on US and UN sanctions terrorist lists. Rogo had opposed Kenya’s invasion of southern Somalia last year to attack Shebaab bases. The United States and United Nations had Rogo of recruiting and fundraising for the extremist insurgents in Somalia.
